Patrick has edited and published books, book chapters, and papers on the topic of Game-Based Learning, providing both evidence and practical guidelines on the effectiveness of this medium. His publications address a wide range of issues faced by GBL designers and practitioners (e.g.,  best practice, educational psychology, personalities, emotions, and engaging learning environments). Patrick regularly delivers keynotes on this topic and  also organizes workshops for teachers and other practitioners interested in learning more about how to make learning more interactive, engaging and efficient on the part of the learners. Patrick  also chairs an annual conference, the Irish Symposium on Game-Based Learning (iGBL), where all stakeholders interested in GBL can network, learn from each-other, and discuss the many aspects and opportunities offered by video games.
